Statistics Canada is the primary agency that produces statistics population, resources, economy, society and culture. It does a very good job of collating a variety of resources that would otherwise require going to a number of individual sites to get.
One of the most important of these is the site for the Canadian Census. Much like the site for the U.S. Census Bureau, the Canadian Census site overflows with materials ranging from maps to detailed demographic data about the smallest individual towns. A good starting point is the 2006 Community Profiles.
